So Ive got a car hauler and I want to put a winch on it and not have to worry about charging it. Im assuming I just hook the 12v from the truck wiring harness directly to the battery on the trailer and it will keep it charged. Would it be a good idea to disconnect the wiring before winching something so I dont fry the wiring in the truck?

You can certainly use the 12 Volt accessory lead from the trailer connector to maintain the battery on your trailer. It is a good practice to unplug the trailer anytime the vehicle is not running to prevent the vehicle battery from becoming discharged. When using the vehicle to charge a trailer battery, be sure to follow all of the battery manufacturers guidelines regarding battery charging. It would also be a good practice to unplug the trailer from the vehicle when using the winch, in the unlikely occurrence that the winch would pull current from the vehicle.
