Congratulations on your new trailer! We have a chart on our Finding the Right Electric Winch page (see link) that shows how to select the proper winch for your trailer. You will need to know how much the vehicles you will be towing will weigh and you will need to purchase a winch with enough capacity to pull the vehicle up the incline and onto the trailer.

We recommend using a winch with a line pull capacity equal to that of the load being moved so that if the incline (resistance) is increased by the slope of the ground you are loading off of you will have enough winch power to pull the vehicle onto the trailer. A good winch for your trailer would most likely be the Superwinch S5000, item # 1450200.

Mounting the winch is personal preference but you will need to keep in mind that the winch line will have to go down to the vehicle being towed so you will want to mount the winch high enough so that when pulling your load onto the trailer the cable will not contact the trailer decking or framing. If you could beef up the front rail to handle the pulling capacity needed this would be a good location. You will also need to mount the winch far enough forward to pull the vehicle completely onto the trailer.
