What is the Weight Capacity of Roof Mounted Cargo Bags

Question:

Since these bags typically sit directly on the roof and not on the rack bars, what is the recommended weight for usage in these bags. I assume most roofs are able to hold a couple hundred pounds?

Actually, roof cargo bags are designed with the intent of use with a roof rack. They are not intended for use without a roof rack. The capacity of the Thule Nomad Roof Mounted Cargo Bag, item # TH856, is 100 pounds or the capacity of the roof rack or the capacity of the vehicle roof, whichever is lowest. You can check the capacity of your roof or OEM rack in your owner manual.
