Is a Stabilization Strap Required for Curt Trailer Hitch C13130 On a 2013 Acura RDX

Question:

The Curt hitch has a note that says All non-trailer loads - bike racks, cargo carriers and so forth - should be supported with stabilizing straps. Failure to properly support these loads will void your hitch warranty from CURT. It doeosnt look like the Draw-Tite has the same requirement. Do I really need to use the strap with the Curt, but not the Draw-Tite?

Curt requires it for all Class I and II hitches and even some Class III hitches. Basically if there was a problem and you were not using stabilization strap # 18050 then the warranty would not cover it. So in that respect, with the Curt hitch you do have to use the strap. The strap does work as far as relieving stress on the trailer hitch. It is easier to use on certain vehicles and accessories than others.

But if using the strap at all is a concern then going with a Draw-Tite # 75692 or Hidden Hitch # 87584 trailer hitch would be the way to go since they do not have the strap requirement. I have included instruction links and a video link for you on the Draw-Tite/Hidden Hitch hitches.

If you also plan on doing some towing in the future I recommend the etrailer ball mount kit # EBMK4. It comes with a ball mount, interchangeable ball set, hitch pin with clip, and a storage bag. For trailer wiring use # 118569. I have linked instructions for the wiring as well.
