Hitch Installation Bolts Will not Fit Weld Nuts in Frame of 2002 Honda Odyssey

Question:

Hi. I purchased a Curt trailer hitch for a 2002 Honda Odyssey. The 6 bolts included in the packaging do not fit the hole pattern in the vehicle frame. Is it possible that the bolt should be 11mm instead of the 12mm that were included in the package?

Although it is possible that you do not have the correct bolts, I believe you will find that they will fit just fine if you would clean the bolt holes before installing them. In the 7 or so years since your Odyssey left the factory, you have probably accumulated quite a bit of road grime and corrosion in those bolt holes. Try soaking those nuts that are welded into the frame with a spray lubricant such as WD 40. Let the lubricant sit for several minutes, then scrub thoroughly with a wire brush. The brush on a battery terminal cleaner works great. Once scrubbed, spray them out again with the lubricant, then install the bolts.
