I Cannot Fully Insert the Hitch Installation Bolts on My 2005 Chevrolet Equinox

Question:

I recently bought 13591 for my 2005 equinox. I was able to thread the center bolts with no problem. However Im struggling with the side bolts. I can only get them on about half way. When I take the bolts out there is rust on the end, so I tried to brush out some of the corrosion, but that didnt help at all. Any suggestions?

Expert Reply:

The problem is that the holes for those weld nuts have become corroded and probably have some road debris built up in them. Use some WD-40 or some other spray lubricant, and spray the heck out of those holes. After letting it soak in for a while, use a wire brush to scrub them thoroughly. I have found that the brush on a battery post and terminal cleaner works great. Once you get the holes cleaned and lubricated, the bolt should go in with no problem.
