Turn Signals Not Working on a 1993 Camry Power Goes into Converter But Does Not Come Out

Question:

This vehicle has separate brake and turn signal lights. Trailer combines these lights. Vehicle has a module taking the five wires including brakein and the four wires to the trailer. I have had turn signal problems. Running light power is OK coming in and out of unit brown wire. Each turn signal shows power coming into but not out of the unit when activated. It sounds to me that unit is bad probably installed back in 1993. Which type of unit should be used as replacement?

Expert Reply:

It sounds as if your converter has gone bad or has been shorted out. You should check your trailer out to be sure that there is not a problem there that has caused the problem with the converter, which could occur again when a new converter is installed.

You will need to re-wire your 1993 Toyota Camry. You will need to use the Upgraded Modulite Circuit Protected Vehicle Wiring Harness, part number 119176. With this harness you will be installing a new 4-way trailer connector and will only need to splice to the wires on the vehicle side of the converter.
