Do the Leads from the Brake Magnets on a Brake Assembly Need to be Grounded to the Trailer Frame?

Question:

I have an order on the way for new trailer brakes. I also have installed all new wiring. The trailer has 4 wheels with brakes on all 4. My question is....is it ok or should I ground the ground wire to the trailer frame as well as going to the brake magnets...?...Paul

Expert Reply:

Each brake magnet will have two leads coming off of it. One lead grounds to the trailer frame, and the other would attach to the brake output circuit. The ground lead from the trailer would also ground to the trailer frame, usually somewhere on the trailer tongue.
