2005 Nissan Xterra Trailer Wiring Troubleshoot

Question:

I have the correct wiring harness connected to the pre-tow package. Everything works on my trailer except the parking lights and it was tested/confirmed with a second vehicle. Nissan said there were no updated relays. Do I need an additional part or fuse? If so, how do I know which one to replace? They all looked fine. I traced the ground wire and there is no damage.

According to Tow Ready, if your Xterra does not have the full tow package installed, the # 118263 will install, but as you have found, the trailer tail lights will not function. It sounds as if your Xterra does not have the factory tow package.

For the Xterra without the tow package, we recommend either the Tow Ready # 118525 which includes the sub harness and relays (which unfortunately, are not sold separately) or the Hopkins # 43605 that taps inline with the factory harness connection to the vehicle tail light assemblies.

Either of the two harnesses I recommended will provide a functioning tail light circuit at the connector for your trailer.
