Is Additional Transmission Fluid Needed When Installing Transmission Cooler on a 2005 Chevy Equinox

Question:

Can you tell me the oil capacity for this unit? I plan on installing on a 2005 equinox and need to know how much additional fluid to buy. Thanks

Expert Reply:

The amount of additional fluid needed, if any, when installing a supplemental transmission cooler is going to vary from vehicle to vehicle and because not all installations are the same. Once installed all you have to do is start the engine, put the vehicle in gear for a few seconds, return to park then check for leaks. If you do not see leaks, check the fluid with the engine still running and add fluid as needed.

The volume of a transmission coolers does not necessarily equal the amount of additional fluid you would need because it depends on where it is mounted and how much hose is required and how long the factory lines are.
