Each of the four wires has a specific purpose. The white wire needs to be grounded, the red wire goes to the stop light switch on your vehicle , the black wire must be run through a circuit breaker and then to your battery, and the blue wire sends the brake signal to your trailer. Do you have a factory installed 7-way? If so, you will only need to plug in the brake controller adapter, such as the Tekonsha Wire Replacement for Dodge Vehicles, part # 3020-P.

If you have a factory installed 4-Way connector, you will only need to purchase the brake controller adapter and the Adapter 4 Pole to 7 Pole and 4 Pole, part # 37185. If these are the wiring components you are using, you should have the necessary wire already run. If you want to run the blue wire from the brake controller to your 7-way, the answer is yes. If you use the brake controller adapter, you will need to find the blue brake wire at some point to tap into it. Otherwise, your other options would be to forget about the plug-in adapter, and hardwire the entire system with the Brake Controller Installation Kit, part # ETBC7.
