Trailer Hitch and Bike Rack Recommendations for a 2005 Saab 9-2x with Rear Spoiler

Question:

Ive got a 2005 saab 9-2x, which is similar to a subaru impreza wagon, except it comes with a standard spoiler at the top of the hatch. Both your site and Thule site say the Thule 910 xt passage 2 is compatible, but I notice the fit guides say: 127: route strap under the spoiler at top of hatch. There is no gap between the spoiler and the rear glass to route the top straps under. Are you familiar with how to route the strap so it goes under the spoiler seems to be impossible to me, short of removing the spoiler? If thats not possible, is it safe to route the top straps on top of the spoiler? For what its worth, the spoiler seems pretty sturdy, but of course I want to be sure before I buy this, strap on 2 bikes, and they rip off my spoiler and fly spoiler and bikes into on-coming traffic. Thanks for your insight and help!

If there is no gap between the spoiler and the body of the car you will not be able to use a trunk mount bike rack on a 2005 Saab 9-2x. The straps cannot be placed over the spoiler because the spoiler cannot accept the weight and stress.

The best and safest option is to install a trailer hitch and use a hitch mount bike rack. You can use Draw-Tite trailer hitch, # 24758. I have included a link to the installation instructions for you to view.

This is a Class I trailer hitch so you will be limited to carrying 2 bikes and you will need a rack that is Class I compatible. The Swagman Titan, # S63400, fits the bill. This rack can also tilt down, it has anti-sway cradles, and it comes with an integrated cable lock. The 3 inch rise in the shank will provide more ground clearance.
