Question:
I thought I remembered seeing a warning about using the stoplight switch wire on this model year to trigger the brake controller circuit due to feedback or complications with the cruise control or downstream stock electronics. The switch has pretty skinny wires, about 18 ga, so they wouldnt pass much power for the controller if the switching circuit drew much. Is there another wire to tie into that would be better to trigger the switching in the controller?

You will need to tap into a different location for the brake controller red wire on a 1991 Ford truck. Under the dash near the steering column, look for the turn signal connector. There will be a sort of crescent shaped connector. You will need to tap into a wire there. The wire is usually light green but use a circuit tester like # 3808 if needed to test the wires and make sure you have the right one.
