2009 Smart ForTwo Wiring with Diodes for Towing Behind a Motor Home

Question:

i ordered a wiring harness and it comes with 4 diods, it shows one wire into and two wires out where does the other wire go and also do i need the diods for a 2009 smart for twe

Expert Reply:

Yes, you will need the diodes to tow your 2009 Smart ForTwo and have the taillights function properly while protecting the vehicles electronics. You will need to cut the vehicles wiring and splice the diodes in so that the diode will allow only one source of power to be applied to the vehicles lights at a time. The single spade connector coming out of the diodes is the connection to the vehicles bulb. The two connectors going into the diodes will be from the vehicles lighting system and the wiring harness installed on the vehicle and powered by the towing vehicle. I have posted a video below. It is very helpful for wiring a vehicle to be towed and for understanding how to install the diodes on the towed vehicle.
