Questions: 1 does your kit have the upgraded circuit protection other websites are advertising? 2 must the power wire be run all the way to the battery? I beleive the OEM wiring connects to an aux. panel in the back of the car .... just need to a fuse. Thoughts? 3 OEM wiring requires a software update....does yours require the update as well? Will the software upgrade even work with your kit? Needed or just nice upgrade? Thanks

Yes, the Tow Ready Custom Fit Vehicle Wiring # 118523 that you referenced has internal circuit protection. Part of the circuit protection comes from the power wire that runs up to the vehicle battery. This protects the delicate tail light circuits of your vehicle by drawing all the power to illuminate your trailer tail lights from the battery. Basically, your tail light circuits are just used as signal wires and all the power is drawn through the battery wire.
I would run the power wire up to the battery, running it anywhere is just asking for trouble. Because you will be bypassing the internal circuitry of your vehicle you would not need any type of software update for this product to work.
