Weight Distribution and Sway Control for a Ford F-250 and 2005 Fleetwood Travel Trailer

Question:

I have a Ford F250 short bed v10 and am purchasing a 2005 18 ft fleetwood traveltrailer I have heard that I should have a stabilizer hitch with bars would make it so much easier and safer to tow I would like to know if the on listed is the correct on the ball is 2 5/16

Expert Reply:

Weight distribution and sway control would benefit you and help prevent trailer safe for the safest ride. When choosing a weight distribution and sway control system, you will need to determine the tongue weight of the trailer, see link, and then add to that the weight of anything loaded behind the rear axle of the tow vehicle.

Once you have all these numbers you will want to use a system that has a tongue weight capacity range that encompasses the total tongue weight. The system you have referenced, # PS49902, is rated for 500 to 750 pounds tongue weight. It comes with a 2-5/16 inch ball. I have included a link to the installation details for you.

I have also included a link to our FAQ article on weight distribution and sway control.
