Question:
I want to carry two 17 foot kayaks, weighing 60 lbs. each, on the roof of a 2008 Ford Escape. The factory rack with crossbars is rated for only 100 lbs. and that is probably optimistic based on its construction. I have considered various options and the best that I can come up with is to use Yakima Q towers mounted in front of the factory rack and then use a Yakima Dry Dock in the trailer hitch. Is this a reasonable approach? Can you suggest other options? Thanks!

Yakima does not have fit information if the vehicle already has crossbars but Thule does. You can add a Crossroads system, # TH45050, to add some crossbars. Then you can use the Thule Goalpost, # TH997. On the Crossroads load bars, you can use # TH830 to hold the 2 kayaks. I have linked a video showing a typical Crossroads installation for you.
