What happens to my original bumper if I use this base plate to attach my tow bar to for my 1986 Suzuki Samurai.

The Roadmaster base plates, # 1003-1, attach to the frame of the 1986 Suzuki Samurai. they do not replace or attach to the bumper on the vehicle.
With the base plates installed you will then need a compatible tow bar. Any Roadmaster tow bar will work. A very cost effective tow bar is # RM-020. I have included a link to the installation details for you to view. If the tow bar you have is not a Roadmaster tow bar, there may be an adapter that will work with it.
You will also need safety cables, like # RM-643.
For lighting the easiest solution is a magnetic light kit like # C-ATL20A. The magnets stick to a metal surface on the vehicle and the other end plugs into a 4-Way flat on the towing vehicle.
Most states now require a supplemental braking system on the vehicle being flat towed. The easiest system to set up and use is the Even Brake # RM-9400. This is a proportional system that applies the vehicle brakes in proportion to how much the towing vehicle is braking. Proportional systems are the safest way to stop and they reduce wear and tear on both vehicles.
I have included a helpful link to our series of FAQ articles on flat towing for you. You will want to consult the vehicle owners manual to determine if you can flat tow this vehicle and on the proper procedure for flat towing.
