Recommended Hitch and 2-Bike Rack for 2010 Subaru Forester

Question:

Hi, What would you consider to be the best 2 bike hitch mounted bike rack, what size hitch and what type of hitch to use for a Subaru 2010 Forester? I want one that can carry 2 adult size mountain bikes with minimum swaying of the rack or the bikes when the car is in motion. Thanks

When the choice between a Class II and Class III is available, I would always recommend a Class III. A Class III will have a much better selection of available accessories, as well as a higher towing capacity (your actual towing capacity may be limited by the towing capacity of the vehicle).

I would recommend the Hidden Hitch Class III, part # 87493. A platform-type bike rack would be best to ensure that the bikes remain motionless during transport.

A good, economically priced 2 bike rack would be the Swagman # S64670. The ratcheting hooks will securely hold your bike. The rack includes an anti-rattle hitch bolt that will hold the rack tightly in the receiver. The Thule T2, part # TH916XTR is a good example of a higher-end model. The T2 will fold flat up against the rear of the vehicle when not in use, and is also capable of being folded away from the vehicle to allow access to the rear hatch. If you are watching your budget, the Swagman rack might be your best choice. If you can swing the extra cost, the additional features and convenience offered by the Thule model might be a better choice, especially for frequent riders.
