Question:
Greetings: Will you please advise me as to: [1] the maximum speed for a 4.8 X 12 2ply trailer tire, [2] recommended travel speed for long trips for the 4.8 X 12, and [3] what is the formula for calculating tire speed for different size tires?

If you are using our tires, they are all rated for 65 miles per hour maximum, regardless of how far you are going, unless otherwise noted on the tire sidewall itself. While there is a formula for tire speed based on size and construction of the tire, it is not applied to trailer tires.
Trailer tires should also be inflated to the maximum psi rating as indicated on the tire. Because trailer tires are made with a thicker sidewall to handle more vertical load, under inflating a trailer tire would cause excess heat build-up and the tire could fail.
I have included a link to our trailer tire FAQ article for you to view.
