Question:
Does this truck already have a transmission cooler?

I did some checking and you should have a factory transmission cooler in your 2004 GMC Canyon. It will be near the bottom of the radiator. If you plan on doing any towing I would strongly recommend you install an aftermarket transmission cooler in conjunction with your factory transmission cooler as factory coolers are usually adequate at best for vehicles that are not towing.
You will need to measure the distance in front of your radiator to see how much room you have for a supplemental cooler, but if it would fit I would recommend you get a Derale Transmission Cooler # D13503. So that you will not have to cut or flare any lines you may also be interested in purchasing a Derale Snap-In Fitting # D13018.
I attached an FAQ article on transmission coolers for you to check out also.
