It sounds like a cargo carrier with an angled shank would be the best choice in your situation.

An angled shank would raise the cargo carrier anywhere from 2 to 3 inches above the receiver opening, and would place the carrier further above your exhaust outlets.

The Rola Cargo Carrier, part # 59502 is a great looking carrier that measures 22x55. The angled shank would place the basket almost 13 inches rearward of the hitch pin hole in the receiver and would raise the carrier up 2 inches. An optional incandescent # 20174 or LED # 98174LED light kit is also available.

The Pro Series Carrier, part # 63153 measures 24x60, and has an angled shank that would place the carrier 12-3/4 inches rearward of the hitch pin hole and would raise the carrier by 2-1/2 inches. The same light kits mentioned above will work with this carrier.

The Curt Cargo Carrier, # C18130 measures 20x60, and features an adjustable shank that would place the basket as far away as 16-1/4 inches rearward of the hitch pin hole. The angled shank would provide 3 inches of elevation. There is not a specific light kit available for this carrier, but part # 6504 could be made to work with some modification.

Of the three models, I prefer the aesthetics of the Rola Model, but the Curt carrier would place the basket furthest away from your exhaust. The Pro Series is a good middle of the road option.
