Question:
You have this model #11317 listed as the correct hitch for 2012 Impreza Hatchback Premium, Single Exhaust. Can you tell me if the hitch is designed to use the knock-out hole in the middle of the plastic trim below the bumper, or will it hang visibly below that trim? Also, can you forward installation instructions, as I cannot fathom how I would access the back side of the bolt holes in the frame to bolt the thing to the car, and wouldnt want to purchase something I could not install? Thanks!!

For the 2012 Impreza Hatchback, the correct hitch would be the Curt # C11286. For WRX or WRX STi Hatchback models, the correct hitch would be # C11120. The # 11317 you mention is a fit for the WRX Sedan model only.
Of all the hitch manufacturers we deal with, I believe Curt does the best job on their installation instructions. I have linked you to the instructions for both hitches mentioned above. We have not yet had the opportunity to install a hitch on the 2012 Subaru Impreza, so I do not have any install videos to refer you to, but the actual photos included in the instructions will do an excellent job of helping you through the process, which is not too difficult. The bolts are threaded into the frame members using a bolt leader or fish wire, as shown in the instructions. I will link you to a video that shows the technique needed to use the bolt leader.
If you were planning on using the hitch for carrying a bike rack or cargo carrier, the use of a stabilizing strap # 18050 is required per Curt warranty requirements.
If you were planning on doing some light towing, you might also need the following:
Trailer wiring harness for Hatchback, part # 119176KIT
Trailer wiring harness for WRX or WRX STi, part # C56111
1-7/8 inch trailer ball, part # 19256
2 inch trailer ball, part # 19258
Locking hitch pin, part # 40106
I have edited a photo showing how both of the hitches I mentioned would install in relation to the rear bumper on their respective vehicle. The C11286 would not utilize the cut out in the bumper, but would install under the bumper fascia as shown.
