Does the Battery have to be Disconnected to Install MagnaFlow Exhaust # MF16500

Question:

The instructions for installation mentioning to remove the battery cable before installing inorder to reset the computer. Would there be a problem if i dont do this. i wanted to rev up my car without the oem exhaust on. Should i reset the cable after i have installed the system?

Expert Reply:

You will want to disconnect the negative battery cable so that after you have the new exhaust installed, the computer can recognize the new part and calibrate itself as needed. You may end up having error messages and the vehicle may not run correctly if you do not disconnect the negative battery cable before installing the new exhaust.

After installation, reattach the negative cable and start the car like you normally would. You may have to re-program the clock and radio stations but that sure beats having error codes and a potentially poor running vehicle.
