Hitch Adapter for a 1-1/4 Inch Receiver on a 2009 Subaru Forrester

Question:

I have Subaru 2009 forrester with a factory instuled 1 1/4 trailer hitch. Can we add your 2 ADAPTER FOR CARRYING BIKES. THANKS. MO

The Hitch Adapter 1-1/4 inch to 2 inch, part # 80303, can only be used with a Class II receiver. You will need to double-check the hitch on your Forester to be sure that it is a Class II hitch. Usually Class II hitches have a 3,500 pound capacity. If so, you can use the part # 80303. If not, and you have a Class I receiver, you can use the Hitch Adapter, part # HTAD. However, please be aware that in using an adapter you will reduce the tongue weight capacity of your hitch by 50 percent. That means if you have a Class I hitch with a 200 pound tongue weight capacity and use the adapter, you will only have 100 pounds of capacity. Please be sure the combined weight of the rack and bikes does not exceed this reduced limit.
