Need for Weight Distribution System on a 2004 Mazda Tribute

Question:

I am looking to but a fard side travel trailer in the sub-3000 lb weight range. With the hitch I ordered and the trailer I am considering, do I need to worry about weight distribution or sway control? Thank you.

Expert Reply:

I think your best bet would be to make a few short test trips to see how the trailer responds. I would suggest driving a few miles on the interstate as well as surface streets at varying speeds.

If the rear of your Tribute sags once the trailer is attached and trailer sway becomes an issue, then I would choose a system appropriate for fully loaded tongue weight of your trailer.

Once you get your trailer, if it becomes evident that weight distribution or sway control is necessary, get back with us with a few particulars about your trailer. We will need to know the tongue weight of the fully loaded trailer as well as the length. With this information, we can recommend a system that would work for you.
