Question:
2010 Nissan Murano- tow ready harness #118481 states that it has an upgraded circuit protection module and a wire going to the battery with a fuse holder to power the module. Curt harness #55571 doesnt call it upgraded protection so does it protect the vehicle wiring and electrical components the same as the tow ready harness. Nissan dealer said to be sure that tow harness wont damage vehicle wiring/components. Which is the best harness and is there any other differences, other than price. Is installation the same? Thanks

You are correct, both the Tow Ready trailer wiring harness, # 118481, and the Curt Mfg. harness, # 55571, both have circuit protection for your 2010 Nissan Murano.
The Tow Ready harness adds Upgraded to their product description to differentiate this harness from their older circuit protected harnesses that are no longer in production. The Upgraded harnesses have better circuit protection than their older models.
The Curt harness uses newer circuit protection features and works just as well as the Tow Ready model. Selection is up to you, but I would opt for the more economical model, for that reason only.
The differences are only in manufacturer design, and one harness will provide the same function as the other. In my opinion the harnesses are equal in quality and the installation is essentially the same, except that the Curt wiring has the plug and play power wiring connector for convenience. The price of the Curt harness reflects the added convenience.
Wiring the power wire on these harnesses to the positive post of the vehicle battery, or the protected circuit supplied by the manufacturer, is a critical step in protecting your vehicles sensitive circuitry. Wiring to any other 12 volt source can put your vehicle wiring and computers at risk. I added some links that you might find helpful also.
