I need to transport my 2007 Triumph Tiger 1050. I want a hauler that I can use with my 1 1/2 hinch hitches on both my 2012 Ford Escape and my 2002 VW GTI tongue wt limit on GTI is 200#. The Ford Escape has a 1 1/2 inch receiver too just like the GTI and is rated at 3500 towing capability. Which hitch hauler do I need to work on both vehicles?

I spoke with my contact at Oldenkamp about carrying your 2007 Triumph Tiger 1050 with the Hitch Mounted Motorcycle Caddy, # RHMC1, on your 2002 Volkswagen GTI and your 2012 Ford Escape. He said the biggest issue that you will run into is your trailer hitches being able to carry the weight of the carrier and the motorcycle.
Your trailer hitch will have to support the weight of the bike carrier, 52 lbs, and half of the weight of your bike. I did some research on your bike and the dry weight is 436 lbs. Half of that is 218 lbs so your trailer hitch will have to have a tongue weight capacity over 270 lbs, or 300 lbs if you have gas, oil, coolant, etc... in the bike.
Your Volkwagen will not be able to carry your motorcycle since the tongue weight capacity of the trailer hitch is only 200 lbs, but your Ford Escape will be able to carry your bike with this carrier. The only option that will work for both vehicles would be a small motorcycle trailer like the Magneta Low-Profile Motorcycle Trailer, # UMCT1XHD-AM31985.
