Economical Roof Mounted Cargo Carrying Solutions for 2007 Hummer H3

Question:

Trying to get a roof-rack, either new or used, installed on my 2007 Hummer H3 that doesnt cost more than the entire car is worth has been an exercise in frustration and Ive finally given up! Is there any type of large after-market roof carrier I can get that uses something like straps and suction cups and doesnt need a factory installed roof-rack support base to attach to?

For a universal roof rack you could use # DTA968. You would need 2 of these bars. You could then mount a basket to them. A better option would be to install heavier-duty crossbars using the following parts:

Yakima 48 inch load bars, part# Y00408
Vehicle Specific Landing Pads, two sets of part # Y00224
Control Towers, part # Y00214

Once the crossbars are in place, you could install a low-priced roof basket like the Yakima BasketCase, # Y07012.

The Highland products would not be a good choice for continuous heavy-duty use. If you are looking for a cargo solution that would see little use to carry lightweight items that simply will not fit inside the vehicle, the Highland items would work fine for you. If you were planning on using the roof for carrying cargo frequently, I believe you would be disappointed with the Highland products.

If your H3 is equipped with a receiver hitch, perhaps using a hitch mounted cargo carrier would be a better choice for you. The Surco 24x60 inch carrier, part # 52018 is one of our best sellers. It is rugged and durable, and would work well for you depending on the size of what you were wanting to carry.
