The only way to carry a mobility scooter with a 2009 Hyundai Sonata is to install a trailer hitch and tow a small trailer. All of the trailer hitches available for your vehicle are Class I hitches. This means there are limited accessories and limited tongue weight capacity.

Fortunately we have a solution for this. First you will need a trailer hitch like # 60816. It comes with the correct ball mount, hitch pin, and clip. You will need a 2 inch ball, # 19258, for the trailer I recommend.

The trailer was specifically designed to carry a mobility scooter. It is # UWT1. It has a capacity of 1,200 pounds but weighs only 280 pounds itself. This will be the safest way to carry your scooter.

You will also need to add trailer wiring to the vehicle using # 118433 to power the lights on the trailer. I have included some informational links on the hitch and wiring for you.
