LED Indicator Turns Green then Off with Brake Pedal and No Trailer Attached to 2003 GMC Yukon

Question:

Vehicle: 2003 GMC Yukon SLT w/ Tow Package When trailer is connected, brake pedal depressed, system light momentarily turns green then off. Should the indicator light be green even when trailer isnt connected? This unit worked flawlessly in our 1999 Yukon. SO, does the trailer have to be physically be on the hitch and cable attached? Also, does the Deepcycle battery need to be in the circut for complete connectivity?

Expert Reply:

If the trailer is not connected, when you step on the brake pedal, the indicator light will show green (indicating that you stepped on the brakes) but no power will be sent back so the light will not turn orange or red.

The controller sends a signal back to the 7-Way to see if a trailer is connected or not so that is how it knows there is no trailer connected. The 12 volt circuit on the vehicle side or the battery on the trailer side do not affect the brake controller.
