Tying an LED Tailgate Fire Strip Light to the Flashers on a 2001 Chevy Silverado

Question:

Hi, I recently bought a #360439 LED TAILGATE FIRE STRIP from E-Trailer. I am installing it on a 2001 Chevy Silverado 2500 H D truck. The truck has seperate lights for brake and turn signal. I have a factory 7 wire trailer connector on the truck, but there was no 4 pole connector so I wired the Fire Strip into the factory wiring. I have got all lights to work except the brake lights. The truck brake lights work fine, I just cannot figure out how to get them tied in to the Firestrip lights. I could take the brake light wire from the truck and jumper it into the signal light circuit, but I really need some advice on this one. Do I need one of your light conversion kits or anti feedback diodes? By the way about two of the white backup lights do not light up so it looks like I will need to send this one back and get another one. Please advise on the wiring problem.Thank You Gerald W. Bowers

I am sorry to hear you are having problems with the Fire Strip you purchased. Your vehicle does not require any conversion or diode when plugging the strip into the trailer connector. When you wired to the yellow (left) and green (right) turn/brake wires your brake lights should function as well as the turn signals. I have posted a link below which shows the correct wires in the 7 wire connector to use for the Lights you need to splice in to. If you have spliced in behind the taillights, this may be the problem. You may need to go to the wires going into the 7 wire trailer connector to splice the correct wires. Use a circuit tester and get the turn signal wires and they should both go hot when the brakes are applied.

If you would like to use the four pole originally on the Fire Strip and an adapter to easily hook it up, you could use item TC-127 (see link below) which has many uses also. As far as the LEDs not working, you can call customer service at 1-800-289-8924 and they can help you with a replacement part for this item.
