Before flat-towing your 2012 Jeep Wrangler, you will want to check your vehicles owners manual or your Jeep dealer regarding any other guidelines or modifications necessary so that the vehicle can be safely flat towed. Some vehicles require modifications such as a drive line disconnect, transmission lube pump, free-wheeling hubs or axle disconnects before they can be towed.

If you will be able to flat tow your vehicle, you will need a tow bar, base plate kit, safety cables, wiring, and a supplemental braking system as required by law.

The Blue Ox Aventa LX Tow Bar, part # BX7445, will work with a 2012 Jeep Wrangler that weighs 3,200 lbs. The tow bar has a maximum weight capacity of 10,000 lbs. It will also come with the safety cables.

The base plates you will need are the Blue Ox Base Plate Kit, part # BX1126. These base plates will fit your Wrangler as long as you do not have any aftermarket bumpers, winches, or guards. As far as the level of difficulty of the installation for the base plates on your Wrangler, Blue Ox says a level of 2 in a system with a rating of 1 to 5, with 5 being the hardest.

The remaining parts you will need to complete your towing setup is the wiring and the supplemental braking system.

For lighting I recommend the Blue Ox Bulb and Socket Kit, part # BX8869, because it does not require cutting into the vehicle wiring for installation. Along with the bulb and socket kit you will need an electrical cord and connectors to go from the towed vehicle to the motor home. Blue Ox recommends the 4-Wire Coiled Electrical Cord, part # BX8861, if your motor home needs a 4-Way round connector, and the 6-Wire Coiled Electrical Cord, part # BX8862, if your motor home needs a 6-Way round connector.

For braking one of the easiest systems to set up and use is the Blue Ox Patriot System, part # BRK2012. This is a proportional system that applies the vehicle brakes in proportion to how much the towing vehicle is braking. Proportional systems are the safest way to stop and they reduce wear and tear on both vehicles.
