I own two Chevrolet 3500 dually pickups each pulling a 40foot gooseneck trailer with electric over hydraulic disc brakes. As the factory control module would not work with the trailer system, a magnet pac made by Carlisle had to be wired into the system. Both trucks are experiencing really hard jerking when the brakes are applied with a load on the trailer. Will your P3 work with my system. I unstand that the factory controller would have to be by-passed. Do the magnets have to be removed or by-passed also. If your system will work with what I have, I will have it installed by a professional. I have to abide by DOT regulations and I am not certified for this type of work. I would really appreceiate an answer to this problem as the dealership has no answer at all.

The Tekonsha P-3 Brake Controller, # 90195, will work on both of your 2011 Chevrolet 3500 Dually pick-up trucks. You should not remove the factory brake controller, but you will need to remove the magnet pac because it will interfere with the P-3 brake controller.
There should be a bundle of wires located under the drivers side dash that have a white label and will indicate the colors of the wires. The wires from the brake controller will connect to these wires under the dash and you will need enough blue wire, # 10-1-1, to run from the brake controller to the rear of the vehicle. You will want to cut the blue brake output wire on the truck 4 to 6 inches from the 7-way connector and splice in the new blue wire.
The final step in the installation is locating the power supply wire which will be located between the fuse box and the side wall of the vehicle and the battery charge wire which will be located under the master cylinder. Both of these wires will need to be connected to the under-hood fuse box.
I have attached an article that details the steps to be taken to install an aftermarket brake controller in a 2007 to 2011 GM full-size truck with factory-integrated brake controller. I have also attached a video of one of our technicians installing a similar Tekonsha brake controller on a 2011 Chevrolet Silverado. The installation process will be the same as the P-3 brake controller on your trucks.
