Installation of a Curt Trailer Hitch Ball with a Round Shank, # C40044

Question:

I just ordered this product and its being shipped out to me. By the looks of the picture there doesnt seem to be a flat surface to put a wrench on the top of the hitch. Typically there is two flat surfaces so you have something to grab onto while tightening. Please let me know how i should go about installing this ball and not Marring the top of the ball with the teeth of the wrench. Thanks

What you can do is place the ball in the ball mount and thread the lock nut and nut on the shank hand tight. Then place the ball upside down in a bench vise, gripping the somewhere below the ball so you do not scrap up the ball. Then you can use a wrench to tighten the nut to the specifications indicated on the tag for the ball.
