Is Drilling a Hole in the Trunk Required to Install the Hopkins Backup Sensor System, # HM60100VA

Question:

I have a 2007 Lexus. With the plate mount sensor do I need to drill a hole through the trunk? Also can the audible part be left in the trunk?

Expert Reply:

You will not necessarily have to drill through the trunk to install the Hopkins Backup Sensor System, # HM60100VA. You can route the wires down and underneath the vehicle and look for an existing grommet to route the wiring through into the trunk area. If there is no grommet then you will have to make a hole for he wiring. Make sure to seal it up with silicone sealant to keep out fumes and moisture.

Having the alert part in the trunk is probably not the best location for it because it could be difficult to hear it. If it were an SUV it would work fine. In a car, though, I would place it in the cab somewhere so you are sure to hear it.
