would the sensor pick up the distance to the trailer or the trailer tongue?

On the Hopkins Backup Sensor System, part # HM60100VA, the sensors can be adjusted up and down. If the sensor is adjusted down to pickup the trailer tongue then it will pickup the tongue first. If the adjustment is higher it might only pickup the trailer.
I am including a link to a question we answered about the sensitivity range of the Hopkins sensor system that will include a video which will show you how it senses something behind the vehicle. This might help show you how the system works and how it can be adjusted.
