Storing a Thule Roadway Bike Rack TH912 on the Boone Dock Bike Rack BH9142FS

Question:

I have a Thule Roadway 2 Bike Rack that I use on my cars 1.25 hitch. I am looking at the Boone Dock Bike Rack for Thule 1.25 & 2 inch fit BH9142FS. I am confused about how the bike rack mounts on Boone Dock rack. Does the Boone Dock need the bike rack to be in its 2 inch adapter? I have the 2 inch adapter but the rack stinger is a very hard fit in the adapter, so I want to be able to use the Boone Dock without the 2 inch adapter.
