I am looking for a /raise bar to use with a hitch mounted carrier for an electric scooter handicapped. This will be used to raise the carrier so it wont scrape on the road. I need to make sure the upper receiver will extend far enough past the hitch so it will also clear the rear bumper. I have measured the distance from the hitch hole to where it will clear and it is approx. 12 inches. The hitch I am using is a Reese Class II. and the vehicle is a 1998 Pontiac TransSport van.

I am sorry, but we do not sell an adapter to give your Class II hitch a raised receiver opening. Adapters like you are seeking will reduce the tongue weight capacity of your hitch by half, so they are not recommended for use with a Class I or II hitch. The Roadmaster 6 inch High - Low Hitch Adapter, part # RM-048-6 is only intended for use with a tow bar when towing a vehicle. It cannot be used with your 1-1/4 inch hitch nor is it designed for the purpose you need. We do offer a Class III hitch for your 1998 Pontiac Trans Sport Van that would give you a higher towing capacity, and allow you the use of an adapter. I would recommend the Hidden Hitch Class III Trailer Hitch, part # 87410, for your vehicle. The tongue weight capacity of this hitch is 300 pounds. You could use the Valley Trailer Hitch Ball mount with 2 inch Receiver for Bike Racks or Cargo Carriers, part # V75090 for your scooter carrier. The adapter will give you a 6 inch rise. However, using it will reduce the tongue weight capacity of the hitch to 150 pounds. As long as the combined weight of the carrier and scooter is less that 150 pounds, this system would work for you.
