Question:
I have a 2002 Ford Sport Trac with an existing class III hitch and 4 plug connector. I am upgrading trailers and going to a 7 way with brakes. What is the best way to convert the wiring for the upgrade, and what brake controller would you recommend? Thanks!

To upgrade to a 7-Way trailer connector on your 2002 Ford Explorer Sport Trac and to add a brake controller, I recommend that you use the 4 and 7-Way installation kit # ETBC7. It comes with everything you will need to wire in a 7-Way and provides the wiring to install a brake controller. I have included some links that explain how to install an ETBC7 kit.
For a brake controller, I recommend the Tekonsha P2, # 90885. This is one of our most popular controllers because it is easy to set up and easy to use. It also has some nice features such as the ability to be mounted a full 360 degrees in the direction of travel, it is compatible with electric over hydraulic braking systems, and it has diagnostic features. I have included a link to the installation details for you.
