Question:
I will be towing a 32 camper trailer to martinsville va. I will be using a 2003 silerado 2500 with a 8.1 liter, allison tranny with tow package. my truck has the 7 prong from the factory but no electric brake controller. do I have to get a special brake controller to match my transmission as it downshifts off a hill? I usually tow a 18 flat trailer to west va. with four wheelers and I get some downshifting when my tranny is in the tow mode.

I would recommend the Prodigy P2 Brake controller, part # 90885,along with the Tekonsha wiring adapter for GM vehicles for your 2003 Chevy Silverado 2500. You will not have to get a special brake controller because of your vehicles tow mode that uses engine braking to help slow the vehicle.
This P2 brake controller uses an accelerometer that will feel the amount of braking being applied from your 2003 Silverado and apply the trailer brakes in proportion to that. If your vehicle is using the brakes or the engine braking of your vehicles tow mode to slow down; the # 90885 will apply the brakes proportionate to the overall level of deceleration.
