Question:
l recently purchased the hitch ball with 2 inch diameter and medium shank, 6000 lbs GTW- Chrome and found out that it did not fit in the hole that is in the rear bumper of my 1998 Ford Explorer Eddie Bauer Edition V8 5.0 L. lt was very big. l really like the ball and would like to find one thats bolt on that would fit in the hole of this rear bumper without any kind of modifications. What are my options and or which size would you recommend in chrome please? Thanks.

I would need to know the hole diameter in the bumper of your 1998 Ford Explorer. If it is smaller than the 1 inch shank on ball # 63845, the next size down would be a shank with a 3/4 inch diameter, # TR63822, rated for 3,500 pounds.
Down from 3/4 inch we have a 5/8 inch diameter shank, # CB-20Z, which you normally see on lawn mowers and other small equipment so it is highly unlikely it will fit.
The best way to measure the opening on the bumper would be to use a sett of dial calipers to give you a much more accurate measurement than a ruler or tape measure would. You can also consult the vehicle owners manual because it might be there as well.
I also recommend consulting the owners manual for the towing capacity of the bumper. Most bumpers are rated for a max of 3,500 pounds.
