Mounting Location for Derale Transmission Cooler # D13502 on 1989 Mazda 626

Question:

I have a mazda 626 non-turbo 1989. How would you mount the cooler?

If space allows, the best location to install the cooler would be directly in front of the radiator, just behind the vehicle grill. The cooler mounts using included zip straps. The zip strap would push through the fins of the cooler and the the radiator as shown in the video I will link you to. The video shows a cooler being installed on a different vehicle, but the video will give you a good run-down of what is involved.

The cooler would be installed inline to the transmission return line from the radiator. To determine which line is the return, first locate the transmission lines. Then, start the vehicle, and place the transmission in drive for 10 seconds. Place the transmission in park, and turn off the vehicle. Feel both transmission lines. The cooler of the two lines will be the return line, which is the one you would use to install the transmission cooler.

If you know the model number of the transmission, you can refer to the table I have provided.

I will also link you to some FAQ articles about transmission coolers.
