Fifth Wheel Trailer Hitch Installation Kit Recommendation for a 2010 Chevy Silverado 1500 Crew Cab

Question:

I have a 2010 Chevy Silverado 1500 crew cab, short box, I am wondering how or if I can tow a fifth wheel. We already have a Reese 16K hitch, part #30047.

The 2010 Chevy Silverado short bed crew cab probably has the 5.5 foot bed. With a bed this short, the only way to tow a 5th wheel would be to use a Sidewinder. Depending on the width of the trailer, even the extra 22 inches of clearance offered by a Sidewinder may not be enough to safely make tight turns. I have included a link to our Sidewinder main page that includes a formula on how to measure to determine if a Sidewinder will be enough.

Since you already have a 5th wheel trailer hitch, if you find that you can tow a 5th wheel trailer, you will need to install an installation kit for the hitch. I recommend the custom kit, # RP50064-58. Custom kits are easier to install than universal kits because they are custom made to fit your truck.

I have included a link to the installation instructions and a video showing a typical installation for you.
