Will a Class II Cargo Carrier Work in a Class I Hitch on a 2007 Honda Fit

The hitches available for the 2007 Honda Fit are all Class I hitches and a Class II accessory like the Rola Hitch Cargo Carrier, # 59507, will not fit in the hitch, because there is a stop inside the Class I hitch that prevents the use of Class II accessories which could overload the vehicle frame.

For your Class I hitch I would recommend the Draw-Tite cargo carrier, # 6500, that is designed for a Class I hitch and has a raised shank to help with ground clearance when going over speed bumps or navigating deep dips like those found at the entrance to many parking lots or steep driveways, see video link.

When the cargo carrier is installed in the hitch you will need to keep the tongue weight below the capacity of the lowest rated item, which in this case will be either the hitch, normally 200 lbs for Class I hitches, or the vehicle frame, see owners manual. The tongue weight is figured by adding the weight of the cargo carrier to the weight of the items that will be carried on it and anything carried inside the vehicle behind the rear axle.
