Question:
What would the minimum diameter center bore need to be for a wheel to be compatible with these hubs? I have a set of 17inch wheels with a center bore of approximately 4.25inch that I would like to use with these hubs.

In addition to making sure the pilot hole of your wheel is large enough you will also need to measure the bolt pattern of your wheel (see FAQ and video).
The bolt pattern of the Dexter Trailer Hub and Drum # 8-201-5UC3-EZ is 6 on 5-1/2.
I contacted our representative at Dexter about the Dexter Trailer Hub and Drum # 8-201-5UC3-EZ. He informed me that the pilot hole on your wheel will need to be 2.6 inches or larger.
If your trailer hub uses lug nuts, the pilot hole diameter can be larger than the hub center as the wheel will center off the lug nuts.
If your trailer hub uses wheel bolts, which means that the trailer would use hub centric wheels, you will need to match the pilot hole of the wheel to the hub center.
I have linked an FAQ and video on measuring the bolt pattern of wheels.
