Question:
Is the #90145 1/1/4 less visible than the #87572 2? Or would you recomend another brand. Thanks,

Actually, on the 2012 GMC Terrain, most of any of the available hitches will be covered by the rear fascia like in the pictures you see on our site of similar vehicles that take the same hitch. Only the receiver and part of the cross tube will be visible.
Because visually, they will be visible the same amount, I recommend going with a Class III trailer hitch, # 87572, that you have referenced. It will have a higher capacity and will afford you more accessory options since it has a 2 inch receiver. I have included a link to the installation instructions and a link to a video showing a typical installation.
If you plan on doing some towing, I recommend the etrailer Ball Mount Kit, # 989900. It comes with 2 ball mounts, 2 balls, a hitch pin with clip, and a carrying bag. For trailer wiring, use # 118494 if the Terrain does NOT have a tow package or # 118264 if it DOES have a tow package. I have included links to the installation details for the wiring as well.
