Can I Flat-Tow My 1995 Jeep Wrangler w/ Aftermarket Front Bumper

Question:

I purchased a used Stowmaster 5000 towbar serial # 071546. I received the towbar only without quick disconnects. I have a 1995 Jeep Wrangler with a tube style after-market front bumper. I also purchased a used Brake Buddy Classic. My questions are: Will the 1409-1 work with the after-market bumper? What does the base plate attach to? Are quick disconnects available for this towbar and how do I order them? Wiring to wire Jeep lights? ETC? Thanks

The item you selected, Roadmaster Classic Base Plate Kit, part # 1409-1, will fit 1987-1995 Jeeps with a u-channel bumper only. You would need to install a factory u-channel bumper on your Jeep to attach a base plate kit.

The Roadmaster Base Plate # 1409-1 attaches to the bumper of the Jeep Wrangler which is why the u-channel bumper is required. We do not have a base plate kit available that will work with an aftermarket bumper on your Jeep Wrangler.

There are quick disconnects available that will work with your Stowmaster 5000 Tow Bar. You can use the RoadMaster Quick Disconnects, part # RM-222.

In addition to a base plate kit and tow bar, you will need safety chains, lighting or wiring, and a supplemental braking kit.

The Roadmaster Coiled Safety Cables, part # RM-643, would be a good option for safety cables

For lighting, if you do not plan to flat-tow your Jeep often, I would recommend the Magnetic Towing Light Kit, part # C-ATL20A. If you plan to tow your Jeep often, a more permanent solution would be the Roadmaster Universal Hy-Power Diode Wiring Kit, part # RM-154.

Most states now require a supplemental braking system on the vehicle being towed. I would recommend the Roadmaster Even Brake, part # RM-9400. This is a proportional system that applies the vehicle brakes in proportion to how much the towing vehicle is braking. This system will allow you to slow down faster and help reduce wear on your motor home brakes.

You should contact your Jeep dealer or consult your owners manual for additional steps needed to take when flat-towing. Some vehicles must be equipped with a transmission lube pump, axle disconnect or free-wheeling hubs before being flat-towed.
