Fifth Wheel Hitch Install Instructions for 2008 GMC Sierra

Question:

For a 2008 GMC Sierra, there are two recommended fifth wheel hitch install kits. A custom install kit is offered, part # RP50064-58 or a universal kit, part # RP30035.

Although it is more expensive, I would urge you to go with the custom kit, as doing so can cut up to 50 percent off of the install time. Either kit is recommended regardless of the length of the truck bed.

These install kits are compatible with Reese, Draw-Tite or Hidden Hitch, Curt or Valley fifth wheel hitches.

Also, please be aware that a fifth wheel hitch with a slider is recommended on trucks with beds shorter than 8 feet to prevent the front of the trailer loft from hitting the rear of the truck cab and causing damage. If the truck bed is shorter than 6-1/2 feet, a slider would not provide enough clearance, and a Sidewinder extended pin box would be needed. The Sidewinder is specifically designed to replace the OEM pin box on your trailer. To choose the correct model, you would need the name of the manufacturer as well as the model number of your pin box. By following the provided link, you can see more information about the Sidewinder, as well as a list of OEM pin boxes it will replace.

I have also provided links to the instructions for both the universal and the custom install kits
