Tips for Installing the Yakima SpareTime Spare Tire Mount on a 2002 Mitsubishi Montero

Question:

I am confused. I got this rack as a birthday present, and the box says it will fit my 02 Mitsubishi Montero. However I cant get the mounting plate to fit my 6 hole pattern wheel. The 6 hole pattern fits, but then the stub to mount the rack to is not in the center of the wheel. I looked at the pics posted in the comments of rack on a Honda CRV, and the third pic which showed just the mounting plate on the car looked like it had the same problem I am having the center stub is not centered, but the reviewer said it fit perfectly, and the next pic shows the center stub in the center with the wheel over it? What am Imissing? help

Expert Reply:

First, make sure that you are using the numbers on the mounting plate for your 6-hole wheel. For a 6 hole wheel, use 6 as a guide to installing the plate correctly. If the mounting location for the tire has a support bracket, you will need to remove the adapter plate which is the square piece that covers the large open area adjacent to the square tongue. I have included a link to the installation details and a video review for reference.
